Non Reg. Magnum 60544 KCPD If you are here.....
I have your pre-war Magna's.
The left is in pretty good shape
The right, not doin' so well with a crack from top to bottom, badly worn checkering. To be expected from a cop gun {KCPD}
If you're here & you want 'em, pm me.

Ned,
You are to be commended for trying to find the proper gun for those old grips. Hope someone with the gun sees it. It isn't my KCPD number but if you later decide to sell them I would be interested.

Typical cop gun stocks. Right side beat to Hell. Wonder what the gun looks like?

Got 'em....
off Ebay
S&W Journal #24, vol 3&4, page 19 has a list of the non-reg magnum serial numbers. It just turned out to be one. The grips did come from the correct geographical area. If no one shows up, I'll probably have DWFan work 'em over.
I have 61067 that shipped to KCPD, January 30, 1940, unfortunately, the grips aren't numbered to the gun

KCPD magnum
I have serial number 59382, Reg. #5004. Wish the grips went to mine.
I have never posted a picture but I'll give it a try here.

Thanks. It seems that some stick up their noses at KC guns but, I love 'em.

This is a very nice thing you’re doing. I hope the grips are reunited with the gun. As for KCPD guns I love them. Most have been thrashed but they have such a great history!

getwood,
Beautiful gun! Striking photograph! I think that is the first Reg. Mag. I have ever seen with a Damascus steel frame and barrel.

Outstanding!!!!!!!
Getwood, that RM is fantastic!!
Indeed a lot of the KCPD guns were roughed up & worked over by the dept. armorer before being re-issued. Mine was such a gun. The cylinder was over buffed, causing it to take on that awful plum color. David Chicoine Jr. has it now. I hope to get it back shortly, looking as good as the rest of the gun. Here it is before I picked up the pre-war Magna's

I hope I'm not boring too many folks with this rerun, but here's REG#5159, Ser. No. 59749, shipped 9/7/39 to the KCPD. It's believed to be wearing its original finish, although the grips are non-matching and restored by Keith Brown. Found it in a local shop a few years ago.

Jerry,
Every time I see that beauty I have a hard time understanding why folks speak negatively about the KCPD Magnums. That is a classic working Cop gun. Great barrel length, great hammer, great sights, outstanding history in one of the most traumatic times in American history...just doesn't get any better. If anyone wouldn't be proud to own a KCPD gun, they need to look closely at their standards.

I just have to say I love the above quote. I am picking up my second KCPD Pre-War Magnum in a couple days and I am thrilled. I am going to have to restore the sights to original configuration and the grips are replaced correct period Magnas, but it is still wearing 90%+ of its original blue finish and is going to see some significant range time as well.
