Reg Mag on GunsAmerica this AM
Did anyone see the 5" RM on Guns America this morning? It was listed at $2845.00 When I saw it someone had already clicked on the buy it button. I went ahead and hit the button for a back up offer. An hour later when I got to work I had an e-mail saying my offer was accepted and an address to send a USPS money order. I tried calling the number they gave me and it went straight to a fax tone. I sent them my cell number and asked them to call me. I got another e-mail saying he was out of town until next Wed or Thurs but his wife would take care of shipping. I e-mailed asking for the serial number and Reg number and I have not gotten a response. I SMELL A RAT..... Did anyone else hit the back up button? Have you gotten any e-mails from the seller? Feel free to call me at 303-726-1031 if you have had any contact with this seller.

This would be a case where I would use a third party escrow service, just to be on the safe side.

I get a bad feeling about this listing.
I'm not sure I think that's the original finish, though if that is a reblue it was not an incompetent job. Maybe it's just the lighting that washes out the MADE IN U.S.A. stamp, but I fear not. I'm also worried about the color, which I would lexpect to be blacker (though again, the image exposure could have something to do with that).
Good luck. I hope this is legitimate for your sake, but I have my doubts.

Is the address for the money order in Nigeria or the Ukraine?

Until you hear from the seller, I would not send them a dime. I
assume that you have some kind of examination period for the gun -
just invoke it now, and refuse the transaction. Don't get yourself
stuck in what might be a mess.

I hope the seller isn't assuming it's a RM based on the picture of the "Reg.U.S.Pat.Off." on the hammer.
I can't imagine offering a RM online without, at least, a pic of the reg # in the shroud......

I would get a phone number and use AnyWho or a similar service and do a reverse lookup. If a legit landline, this should give an address. You could also use Google Earth to view the address. I would not send any money to a PO box or Suite.
Years ago, I bougth a nickel steel M39 - along with many others. The seller disappeared with the money. Be careful!

GunsAmerica has issued a Fraud Warning on this person. The actual name is different than the advertised name.

I didn't think "mosquito1" was a particularly confidence-inspiring handle for the seller of an expensive revolver.

Tom, did the fraud warning come in an email notification? Or is it posted somewhere on the GA web site or blog site? I haven't been able to find it. If there is a regular warning service for gun scammers, I'd like to know about it.

David, I got a fraud warning e-mail from Guns America this morning and now the ad is removed. The following is what was in their e-mail.
"You contacted a Robert Heitjan here about a Smith & Wesson. We beleive this to be a scammer account. Do not send money, and if you did, please give us the details."
-- GunsAmerica Customer Service
[email protected]
GunsAmerica
Where America Buys and Sells Guns
Guns for Sale, Gun Classifieds, Gun Auctions, Shop for Guns at GunsAmerica
Since then the seller contacted me with the supposed serial number of 47844 but NO Reg number. I am going to play along to see where this goes.

That's why I send POSTAL money orders by REGISTERED mail. With a bank check or money order you MAY get the local LEO's on their butt. With Postal, and proof of delivery, they get the FBI knocking on their door.

Rob and Jodi are the sellers in Jackson Mi. I just got an e-mail with two more pictures showing the SN as 47834 and the Reg number as 985. This gun shows up in our data base. One of my earlier e-mails from this guy listed the sn as 47844 and NO reg number. I sure wish I knew what is going on here. Still no phone call from them... I still smell something rotten........

David, if the right hand side picture is blown up you can see that there is hardly any Made in USA marking left. Good observation.

The gun looks like a re-blu,,
The seller gives 2 different ser#'s
It's a R/M,,and it's not an R/M
G/A says they're scammers, don't send $$,,
Someone else decided not to go through with the BuyItNow deal,,
(Or was that part of a scam,,make the person really feel like they're lucky to be able to purchase it after just missing the oportunity)
They send you a FAX # to call them at,,
Then another email w/a message that say's The Mr. is out of town till next week but the wifey will gladly pack it up for you,,,
..and that price is just soooo good.
Almost too good to be true isn't it.
What more do you need to know.

David,
I got the same message that Jim did in an email. I contacted them for more information and stated I would be interested in the gun. I suspect that is what triggered the GA notification.
I also got an email with a photo ID and a detailed set of instructions from the seller/scammer. I didn't take it any farther.

Did the scammer say he was a US Air Force officer and attach a phony ID?
If so it's the same crook who was discussed in detail on another popular forum.
