Default Disassembly Question

I have recently traded on a few older revolvers and have a question for the experts here. What is the purpose of the screw in the front of the trigger guard? does it need to be removed to take the cylinder out for routine cleaning? The revolvers in question are N and K frames.

The spring for the cylinder stop is under that screw. To remove the cylinder, the front side plate screw must be removed.
