Default Help with Older .22 Revolver

Several years ago I bought a used S&W .22 revolver. A quick Google search shows that this forum has the best folks to help with my quest for information.

The revolver serial# is K 271XX. It is a five (5) screw model. I have several pics posted below. The gun is a shooter and my teen sons love putting round through it. Any info that y'all could provide, especially an approximate age, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help,

Mike

Welcome! You have a very nice K-22 Masterpiece from 1948. It is a fairly early post-war gun, as the "Made in U.S.A." rollmark on the right lower forward frame was replaced by a four-line marking soon after this. It is one of the best .22 target revolvers ever made and your children (and their grandkids) should be able to put rounds downrange for many years. Enjoy!

Yes. A so-called "one liner!" These are sort of a grail gun for many of us. I had one once, but sold it to a local guy that I know. One of the best-shooting .22 revolvers I've ever owned or shot. I'm not at all surprised that your boys like it.

I did notice that someone has swapped one of the sideplate screws. The flat head screw just behind the trigger should be in the rearmost position, under the top of the grip panel. I'll bet if you take off the stocks, you'll find a round head screw in that position. Those two should be switched around. (It is possible that I'm not seeing it correctly in your pictures, but it looks flat to me. If it has a round head, it is in the correct place.)
