David congratulations on two fine specimens.
My 2nd model shipped with Magnas as well.
Just thought I would add that the 1940 Abercrombie Fitch catalog advertises the M&P with a picture wearing Magnas,
The fine print says :
Checkered Walnut stocks. With S. & W. Magna stocks instead of regular type, $1.00 additional. (F-37) $33.00
Below that (Printed exactly as in catalog):
Military and Police Model "K-22", "K-32", "K-38" Target Revolvers.
...Same lines as the M&P Model K except fitted with target sites, 1/10 or Patridge front, or option of Pain Call, Mcgivern, Marble gold, ivory or sheard gold bead front sites at extra charge of $1.00.
Square notch rear adjustable for windage and elevation, 6 inch barrel only, Blued finish, Trigger front and back straps grooved to prevent slipping. K-22 weighs 35 ounces, K-32, 34 ounces, K-38 32 1/4 ounces. Checkered walnut stocks. Furnished with S. & W. Magna stock or S. & W. "Hump Back Hammer" for rapid fire speed, available on
special order at no additional charge, except on Model K-22 (F-58)....$38.00
K-22 Masterpiece is fitted with S. & W. 2 point micrometer rear site, speed lock, anti backlash trigger, Cylinder
is especially designed with recessed head for high speed cartridge. Otherwise the same as Model K-32 and K-38 (F-59) $40.00
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It appears the previous K22 ("Outdoorsman") and the K22 Masterpiece are both advertised in the same catalog .
The $2.00 upcharge "Masterpiece" package upgraded to the new short action hammer/anti backlash trigger, new micrometer click rear site/taller front site.
We have brought the subject up before but there is a possability the parts are all directly interchangeable.
Perhaps if you have the time you might be able to test the theory
