Default Information on Reg. Magnum #3314

Hi Folks,
I just looked at RM #3314- Blue 6"-S# 555--, humpback hammer, all numbers match including stocks- strong 90% finish- small chip in base of right stock- no accessories- has a straight bladed front sight w/ red dot insert w/ small smooth ramp in front. The SCSW shows that this is a 1938 production- appears to be shot very little--other than the handling marks, scratches and slight freckling in the finish- and ever present cylinder drag marks, very nice for an old gal. ,

The Blue Book tells that the 6" barrel is a non standard barrel length and worth a 20% premium. I know the Blue Book is more of a guide than gospel. This RM is on consignment for $5000 at my LGS- waiting on a call to see if there is any wiggle room-

Any thoughts would be appreciated?

Mike E

RMs had to be ordered with any barrel length in 1/4" increments so there was no "standard" length. Each was made to the buyer's specifications.

No expert here but I suspect that 6" would be fairly common and not command any sort of a premium. The short 3.5" guns are most popular and the odd sizes (like 4.5" or 5.75" etc) are sought by serious collectors.

BTW- To me "freckling" is corrosion and that's a killer on value. No way to repair metal once it rusts.

One of the very senior SWCA members printed a flyer regarding RM production numbers a few years back. There were 839 6" guns, which was the third most common length. I'm not current on RM values but $5K as described sounds high.

Yea, I was hoping I'd found a "diamond in the rough". I was thinking I'd go $4500 on this, but I do not have a lot of faith in Blue book values at this level. I'll go look at it again.

Thank you gentlemen.

Hi
A 90% percent gun with the wear and issues you list would be in the
$3500.00 to 3900.00 range.
and the 6 inch barrel is one of the most common lengths.

Thanks Jim

I think the owner has higher hopes- only time will tell. There's nothing like languishing unloved in a LGS to generate some movement, one way or another.. I'm patient..
