Default Another K22 story

A driver that regularly stops at my place of employment asks if anyone is interested in buying a couple older guns. Being a rim fire fan I ask him if he has any 22's. He says he has a S&W 22 pistol which is a duplicate in his collection that he obtained from a friend when he passed. I ask the price. He says $100 cash. I quickly say I'll take it....not even knowing any particulars on the gun, figuring I'll get a woods plinker or 'truck gun' if nothing else. He retrieves the pistol and hands it to me. For $100 cash I had purchased a 1955 K22 in very nice condition.
I'd say that was a pretty good day.

Nice find on this gun. I own one that belonged to my father, i'ts been in the family at least 60 years, still shoots perfect. I would like to find out the age, anyone have a clue of how I go about this. It has numbers on frame, cylinder butt and crane area, all match except the No. on the butt.

Thanks, Fiveshot

If you post the numbers on the butt (you can XX out the last two if you wish) someone will come along with the date it born.

The number on the butt is the serial number.

The serial number should indicate year range of birth.

The No. on the butt is K242XX
The number on frame, cylinder and crane area is 892XX
The K only appears on the butt.

I made a mistake the No. on the butt and cylinder is K 242XX and the No. on the frame and crane area in 892XX
The K only appears on the butt and cylinder

Thanks Arjay,
1948 that sounds correct, as I said I thought it was at least 60 years old. Should I be concerned that the numbers on the butt and cylinder are different than the ones on the frame and crane area? Does this not make this gun authentic?

Were you able to look him in the eyes when you handed him that c-note?

I think i would have been looking for the hidden camera figuring my buddies were punking me.

I love stories with happy endings. The only thing that would have been better is if it happened to me.

There was also a rifle and shotgun...all duplicates for him. They sold instantly as well at more than reasonable prices.

I have a 1947 and a 1949. You need to sell it to me for triple your money and then go confess your sins. Your going to love shooting it. The best I ever did was a 19-3 6" TTT unfired for $300
