Don't give up!! There are still some out there
Like many of you I have been pushed out of the market by the high prices that the decent old Smith and Wessons have been bringing over the past couple of years. Factor in my Barn Boy wages to the equation and it has been a long dry spell since I have added any S&W revolvers to my small collection.
A couple of weeks ago I stopped at the NAPA store for some parts. One of my old gun stores that I used to patrol was right next door. I just walked in to say hey and they had a decent no dash model 36 square butt sitting on top of the counter. It had a few "freckles" on the top strap, had just came in the day before. Early in the discussion he dropped his price $25 to $250. I about dislocated my shoulder pulling my wallet out to do the deal. Plus they had a killer deal on 40 cal ammo so I bought a box. Took the 36 home and it cleaned up nice and looks great to my eyes.
A week later I thought that I needed to grab another box of 40 cal before he sold out, so into town I go. Grab my box of 40 and on the counter in a basket weave holster is a pre model 10 snubbie SB. The bluing was a little worn in a few places but it was in good condition. A little talk and he drops the price to $325 with the holster. Done deal.
So the blind pig found not one but two acorns and averaging pricing them, two fine old snubbies for just a little south of $300.
So ladies and gentlemen. Don't give up. There are still some good deals out there. Just think positive and keep looking. Please excuse the ****** pics.

They were next door to the NAPA.
Fine deals on both. It just goes to show that it pays to keep your eyes open and keep your money handy.

This is a different NAPA store that is next door to the Pawn/Gun store in my home town.
In February I drove down to south Georgia to the NAPA-gun store to do a Gunbroker deal with a friend that was mentioned in the other post. They had more guns than I had ever seen before. I had to get out of there pronto. Very nice people and it was like Noah's Ark for guns. One of everything you could imagine. If you are ever within 100 miles of it you need to check it out. You walk in and turn left for auto parts and right for guns.

My fault - I saw Napa and Georgia and just assumed.
That's cool that these stores exist....... I wish we had some here in Alabama.

Thanks for sharing Barn Boy. You gave all who read this, a reminder we need to visit our favorite gun haunts, and/or request our dealer call us when something we are specifically looking for comes into his shop. This does three things:
1. We get first crack at guns we are looking for.
2. It helps develop and enhance our relationship with the dealer, as he knows he has a go-to guy who is likely to buy the item in question, rather than have to show it to a half dozen or more "Looky-lues", who waste a lot of the shop,s time, with little intent to buy.
3. This offers a good way to build or add to our collection.
Many, if not most of us, love to hang out in guns shops inhaling the aroma of Hoppes, and perhaps dabbing a little behind the ear to impress that night's date, but our dealer is there to make a living. Many of us already use this relationship method, but if you've not tried it, give it a go. Keep in mind if you tell your dealer what you're looking for a few times, but never buy, the calls will stop coming. Respect his time and he'll respect your addiction to Smiths, or whatever you're looking for. Thanks for your post.
