Looks like it is every bit as good as you had hoped Glad you got it...wish I'd gotten there earlier. Well, there's always next time.

Good evening Curtis.
Thanx, I think I did quite well.
Now, about the K22/40's. I am not worried. I think I have them all.
"very very nice.......but where are the ivories that came with it?"
Well, 410bore, I have the ivories and then some. They will make a separate debut.
Can anyone tell me about the medallion in the center of my shiny black box with the gun in it?
I thought someone would have chimed in by now.
Anyone recognize it?

Very nice piece. Very few things compare to these early 44 magnums.
And 32 likes? My threads don't even get 32 views

Bruce:
Is it a belt buckel? I touught it was something you layed in the case. As Curtis said, enough of the 29's! Leave them to those of us who don't have enough!

Bruce, The gun did make that a nice, rounded set. However, It's not a .22.
Excellent setup. Is that a belt buckle or something like a coin? Never wore big belt buckles, but would buy a coin like that in a second. Don't leave some of us hanging...

"Is that a belt buckle or something like a coin?"
I was gifted this item. I am posting pictures of it and hopefully it will channel in some spirits of S&W past so that we can find out what it's intent and purpose was.
As you can see it has some size to it. It is not a belt buckle per se. But, there is no reason to believe it couldn't have been 'set' in a belt buckle, presentation case, dog collar, etc.
I like it. I am happy to have it. It appears to be of solid copper with a coated backing. If you were to hold it in your hand you would see that it is copper. My pictures were set up to show detail so the lighting wasn't given a priority.
Anyone want to chime in?
Enjoy,
bdGreen

Bruce, glad to see you've finally decided to upgrade your collection with one of a more respectable caliber. Nice example

I am still curious about the 'coin/medallion' that I have pictured in post #18 of this thread.
Anyone, anyone?
Oh, there is a gun in this thread also.

You hit a homerun on that one! Is the latch normal for that box or is it a rarity? Do you ever letter the gun to see where it went?

boykinlp...the latch is one of three types used on the dark blue/black presentation cases. It was also used on clamshell cases through the 60s.

Thanx for chiming in Bill. I wasn't sure of the difference in the hardware.

I'm not sure but the barrel roll mark appears to be about 1" forward of the usual position. I know that about 100 in the S170XXX serial number range had this forward roll mark. Very nice!

The serial number on this one is S1766XX. It shipped in June of '58.
I don't see it as being different. Maybe.

I have some cases like that in not nearly as good condition. Is it possible Joe Cebull gave it some TLC?
Oh BTW really nice gun too!
