Army K38
This heavily used pre 14 was shipped to The United States Army 30 July 1956 Fort Manmouth, Red Bank, NJ. It may be a little ruff but shots great and has a wonderful action. Sorry for bad pictures.wallace

I'll take it!
Seriously.
Do you have a factory letter as well?
Nice!

I seriously like that. Very nice.
The gun has a target hammer and, seemingly, a standard trigger. The letter mentions a target trigger and is silent on the hammer. I suspect either the shipping invoice or the letter inadvertently reversed the two terms.

Very nice. It now has an early '50s set of Target stocks; did you find the gun with these, or did you put these on?

Also, the stocks are era appropriate walnut Targets (with the usual extraction dings) rather than the lettered magnas.
Congratulations, an interesting find!
Good shooting!

This is the set of stocks that were on the k38 when aquired. These are numbed to a gun from several years earlier. My thought is the shoter had modified the right stock to taste and just swaped them to the new gun. The hammer trigger configuration is how I received the gun. The action has the feel of a well brokein k38.

Seaburry that's a great US Miltiary K38. I have one (in much worse shape) that was shipped on the same day but to the transportation officer Raritan Dept, Raritan NJ. Serial number is about 1000 off of yours. The letter only mentions barrel length, finish and walnut grips. There must have been some competitions going on at the time at these bases! Thanks for sharing.
