K-22 5 screw in about 95-98%
What would be a good price to pay for the above K-22. I don't know if grips match, the cylinder does. There is no box, tools, or any paperwork from the factory. It appears to be unfired. The new Blue Book says $725 - $775. Thanks in advance for any help. I will be using it for a shooter if I can get a good price.

An unfired 5 screw K22, the blue book would be on the low end. Check it over carefully, All 5 screws are now over 50 years old and "unfired" guns are getting scarce. Look for a re-blue.

A very early postwar K-22 would sell for more than this (Made in U.S.A. on right frame, large ejector rod head), but it may be a little high for a 95% gun.

I'm certain it is not a reblue, it even appears to have some sort of factory preservative on it in places. I may be able to get some pics.

How could an unfired K-22 be only 95% to 98% ? Just asking...

I checked it again, it has been fired, does not appear to be reblued, it has handling marks and some rust which looks to have some pitting underneath. There are a few handling marks on the grips. I believe it sat in a safe for a long time. If I can get it for a good price, it will make a good shooter.

Pits?? aarrrggghhhh............
ANY pits, let alone the rust, makes it worth $500-$550 in my opinion. I can deal with a multitude of "issues", but pits and/or rust isn't one of them. I got this not long ago for South of $300. No pits or rust but it is cosmetically challenged. It is a shooter also....,very accurate. It is a 48 with a .22 lr only cylinder in it.

I was thinking along those lines. It's only a small area on the cylinder, but it clearly indicates it wasn't cared for properly.

It's OK, we've all been there and overestimated condition on the first go-round. It definitely sounds to be more like a $500 gun if the bore/chambers/mechanicals are sound, but the rust may be the deciding factor.

I agree about not over $500 for a Masterpiece with even tiny pits. One of the guns I bought before I really knew what I was doing was a 1950 K-38 that was in great shape everyplace except between two flutes on the cylinder where it must have rested on a wet surface for a while. It is an accurate and reliable gun, but I should have let it go to someone else. I picked up better Pre-14s on other occasions.

The bore and chambers look almost new, lockup seems to be about average, slight cylinder shake when hammer is lowered, very slight.

I sold a very clean 1948 model last year on GB for $730. All the numbers matched including the grips. No box, papers, rust, scratches or turn line.

Improper storage maybe. I have seen really nice guns with rub marks through the blue from movement in the box. also sometimes the screwdriver is left to bang around in there.
I have also seen banged up front sights from bad handling.
