Help on Kit Gun ID
I would appreciate son help on a .22 Kit Gun I have. 2 sets of numbers..bottom grip and cylinder # 22443, and the yoke and frame #76040. I hope the pictures provide other info needed. This may be a loaded question, but since I haven't been able to find one for a comparison, how do I determine a selling price for it? Many thanks!

The number on the bottom of the grip frame is the true SN. The cylinder can be replaced, and the other numbers are factory internal codes. I would guess its value at about $450 or so...if my smartphone could make the photos look better, maybe higher . It probably shipped in 1957. Hope this is helpful.

1953 Kit Gun
Looks like a model 1953 Kit Gun. By your serial # Late 1955-late 1956 early 1957 approx by my S&W books. This one became the model 34(and so marked under the crane on the frame) sometime in 1957. The 2" barrel is a plus as to value and with rising ammo prices, any quality S&W.22 is much in demand. Not much to look at in any kind of decent condition (85%+) under $400-450 with early ones such as yours bringing perhaps a bit more.

Informative input. So, this is not a huge collector gun? I have a 4"version I use as a field gun. I can just see a affection-ado of these going ape s---t because my wife wants to use it as her field piece. I personaly think she needs a ruger.

Former173rd, this CAN BE a huge collector gun, but it all depends on condition. In the condition you show $450 or so seems a fair price. I have a similar gun in much better condition that I think might bring more money.

I hear ya...but, I'm NOT a collector...I'ma shooter. If this thing has a place in history, but not on the range, I gotta let it go. I've used it for a CCW for a while, and its perfect but for the caliber.
I want to go to .45, so if it is something I can put towards that end, I'm happy.
Condition is something I'm not into. I'll be happy to send more photos to those more into fit and finish. Being a "shooter", I have little concern on collectors interest. I do know it will group as good or better than the 4" version, or my MKI Ruger.. Not having any "safe queens", I will concede to the S&W experts. My sights are set on a compact .45, and this little piece will hopefully help fund it.

I have 2 numbers on both sides of your Model of 1953 22/32 Kit Gun serial number and they both shipped in Jan 1956. Yours has a 3 screw sideplate and a third style flat latch with round butt option. No need to think about collector interest, it appears to be a shooter based on condition of finish.
Might be a great "matrimonial investment" to give to your wife. I agree with value estimates. You'll get the most buyer interest and quickest sale right here on this forum.
