Picked up a pre-40 factory nickel "lemon squeezer". DOB and thoughts?
Hey guys. I just picked this up and wanted an idea on DOB and value. It's a pinned factory nickel flat latch pre model 40 4-screw with the factory grips and serial is 8056. Finish looks decent. Really nice but there is a little rust under the grips (I'll take care of it when it gets home). It is "N" stamped under the grips. Here's some quick "in the car on the way back to work from the FFL" pics:
She needs some cleaning and a little Mothers Billit polish and she should clean up real nice!
Anyway, what do you think?

Very nice, and much more scarce than the blue version. Not sure of the ship date - mid 1950s? Perhaps $750.
Does it have the grip safety lockout pin under the stocks (you probably shouldn't look for it in your car )?

Thanks for the info. Yep, it still has the pin. I've polished it with some Mothers Billet polish and am now giving it a nice Froglube treatment. I'll probably need to hit it with some more Mothers later, just want to take it slow.
How rare are the early nickel centennials?

I'm not sure how scarce the early Nickle ones are, but the "average" is about 10% of an issue might be Nickle, so if there were maybe 7900 built between 1952 & 1957, 10% would be 790. (I got the 7900 by dividing the 30160 made between 1952 and 1971 and divided by 19 yrs, than times 5 yrs for 1952-1957). It might be a ball park #.

When life hands you a "Lemon Squeezer" Shoot lemons?
Probably in the $600 to $750 range for someone looking for one.
They made some new ones in nickel and they sold in that same price range but I heard they are out of production now.
There is an interesting thread about the Centennials, you should ad yours to it.
