What Year Was The Combat Masterpiece Introduced?
What Year Was The Combat Masterpiece Introduced? (pre-15)
I’ve looked in my 2nd edition, and I don’t see the year of introduction referenced.
Thank You, Emory

According to the 3rd edition of the book, they came out in 1949.

To refine that a bit, the CM was in design and prototyping in 1949, but the model was first cataloged in 1950. There are a few guns with K+five digit serial numbers and these would be mostly 1950 guns. If the gun has a serial number in the low six digits (K100000 to K120000) they probably date from 1951. The lowest serial number I recall on a Pre-15 is about K80000. I suspect there may be some numbered in the K70000 range. I doubt there were any substantial shipments before July of 1950. Known guns shipped in 1950 went out later in the year.

David, thanks for the inside info. My K38 CM is 115xxx and should as you say be 1951, which is why I bought it...my birth year!
Well, not the only reason I bought it but now I guess I'm "preaching to the choir" !!

I have a pretty early CM - serial number K80534. I have not seen one with an earlier number to date. Always thought it might be a first year gun.

Thanks for the info.
I've got K209855 on the way.
It does look to have a six groove back strap (relatively early?), and should be a 1953 gun.
I’m a youngster, DOB 1960. 1960 guns are often times “Dash - 1” guns, and of course kind of scarce. The only 1960 gun I know I have for sure is a 17-1 and it has a beautiful shiny blue finish.
I gave away my third addition to a friend. Seemed like a good idea at the time. I also gave away my chain saw. It’s yet to be determined if that was a good idea or not. The new house we’re moving into has a lot of big trees on it. Which means getting rid of the saw might just work out fine LOL.

How about a 22 CM shipped to Honolulu in 1951? The 38 went to Missoula, MT one year later.

SP, that is such a great pair of revolvers. They appear to be in excellent condition, but perhaps your still able to get them out and shoot them without hurting their value?
Those two revolvers just look "right".
I love the stocks!
A 5 screw pre-18 is next on my list.

LEO918,
Thanks for clearing up why I have never seen a CM from 1949. I do have one with number K97481 that shipped in November of 1950.
