Who is this engraver (answer)
Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum, Pre Model 27, Special Engraved Edition. Shipped from factory October 26, 1955.
Shipped with 3.5 inch barrel with red insert front sight, Class A
Engraved with gold inlay, blue finish and smooth rose wood target grips
UPDATE: After sending more documentation to S&W. Here is the reply >>>>>>>>>> "The revolver was engraved and gold enlaid by Alvin White, Attleboro, MA. This is a super fine handgun and the workmanship in the engraving and gold inlay is of better quality than was available from Smith & Wesson at the time these revolvers were completed"-----Signed Roy G. romer, That is an outstanding pre 27. It looks like Alvin White did the work.

romer, See my post on your Chief's Special above - same answer. If the factory letter says " Special Engraved Edition" then it's not likely that it's AA White, but the work looks like his, however White was not a factory engraver. It's possible the gun was drop shipped to him in the white and he did the work and returned the gun to the factory for bluing and shipped to the orderer, however the factory letter should say that. Ed.

Alvin White is the engraver. He did contract work for S&W and some revolvers done by him letter as engraved. I have a couple that were engraved by him and letter as a"special engraved edition".
Often, a revolver was shipped to him in the white, engraved, and returned to S&W for shippping, or whatever disposition was planned for it.

Romer,
I'm also in agreement with Doc & the others that your Revolvers were engraved by Alvin White or at the very least in his shop!!
Could you post a closer view of the Signature Panel on this Pre-27 as it seems to be the only one of the three that still has an Intact Panel?? Hard to say why the others were removed!!
I'm attaching a brief explanation of the Signature Panel & also a photo of one of the styles he's known to have inlaid into the Frames of the Revolvers he "Himself" engraved!!

The stocks are also interesting in that they have gold plated S&W monograms, as well as a gold plated escutcheon and nut and grip screw. These are seen very infrequently, but I am sure are factory installed.

Romer,
Thanks!! Sorry to see that the Signature Panel has been removed from the Pre-27 as well!! It was hard to see in the other photo is why I asked you to post one a bit closer!! Regardless, Alvin White most assuredly engraved your Revolver & the Signature Panel would have looked like the one in the photo I posted!!

Masterpiece, might I ask where the quote is from?
I've got a pretty fair engraving library but don't recognize that one(?)
Thanks for the education,
Steve
