Default S&W Victory serial number question

Hello Gentlemen,

Please forgive any inacuracy or unclarity in my post as I am new to the forum.

I'm currently researching a S&W Victory serial # V90005. That serial number is found on the barrel, frame (butt near the missing lanyard hole), and cylinder. The piece is hi luster blued with walnut checkered grips which are probablty not original to the gun. I believe the barrel is 4" and marked; 38 S&W Special Ctg. The left top frame is stamped US Navy.

I believe the piece may have been reblued as the trigger and hammer are also blued. The bore is immaculate and the gun appears to be fired sparingly if at all.

Any information you could provide will be greatly appreciated.

-Rick

V90005 would have been shipped from S&W in Sept. 1942 to the US Navy. Yes, the gun has been refinished in blue, the lanyard swivel removed and the stocks replaced. Restoring the gun to original would probably exceed the value of the gun and it would still not have any collector value, just the value of a good shooter. Ed.
