New mint condition acquisition!
Just came into this one today - a Model 1905 (4th change) with a 6" barrel. With a serial number of 4471XX, I'm estimating its manufacture at roughly 1930. Until I get definitive word on this from Roy Jinks, perhaps some of you can zero in a bit more exactly on this serial number. I find it amazing that guns like this can survive to the present day in this condition. I popped the sideplate on it, and it was pretty dry. It shows evidence of very minimal firing, and the turn line is not heavy at all. The numbers on the frame, cylinder and barrel all match. The stocks match, with the serial number penciled on the inside of one. I'm guessing it was a "dresser drawer" revolver for a long, long time. Thought I'd show it off!

400078 shipped in early 1922 and 544932 shipped in late 1927. I would guess that Russ is very close to reality with his suggestions that lie closer to the mid-1920s. (By 1930 the M&P series was hitting the 600000 range.)

you have a nice one there, I have its twin which I picked up 6-7 years ago now. Its almost mint but it has a spot or two of rust and some light muzzle wear

I have a nice one also. My serial #4201XX was shipped on 10-06-1922 to San Francisco, Ca. Factory Lettered.

With those grips I will also est. 1920's. I think they went back to medallion grips in the 30"s.

Roy Jinks looked it up - turns out it was shipped in April of 1923. A bit older than I first thought. It's in great shape for being almost 90 years old!

I also got one in about that same condition with a slightly lower SN and the same correct stocks about 3 months ago. So they still exist. Problem for me is that I find it very difficult to see the sights with the narrow rear notch and skinny front blade.

Those are very nice. Here is a 4" #363113 I found years ago, that shows no indication it has been fired.

Is the barrel over torqued? Does it shoot to point of aim?

They are addictive. I love anything made in the period between the wars, and most of my guns at present are pre-WWII.

If you are referring to the OP, the front sight is true up and down, and I have no intention of shooting it; it's a safe queen as long as I have it.
