455 Triple lock
Hi.....New to the forum, so bear with me.
I bought a 455 Triple Lock today, serial #1203. Its about 80% condition, and it hasn't been rechambered for .45 Colt or ACP.
It has a Jinks letter showing it shipped to Remington-UMC on 11/25/14. Chambers and barrel excellent.
Barrel, frame, and ejector #'s all match. I haven't found any other numbers on it. I haven't removed the grips, but they are correct according to the letter.
I'd appreciate some thoughts about what it might be worth.
Thanks

New Century .455
Howdy and welcome.
If you bought it, you established it's worth. If you are trying to find out what you could get for it, then that's another matter.
Last summer I bought this .455 New Century Commercial. It's one of the last made, and shipped just after Christmas 1917.
I KNOW it's worth $3200...

mh51, Remington-UMC was the purchasing agent for the British Gov't in WW1 and S&Ws sent to them were in response to orders for .455 revolvers from S&W. Many of those .455s have some sort of British stamps, etc. on them, but not all, as some of them were diverted to the British colonial countries and did not receive any markings. Ed.

Welcome to the forum. We'd love to see pics of your new acquisition.
I have a fairly nice old .455 TL that was converted to .45 Colt, but the modification has cut its collector value. An unmolested .455 is a nice gun to find. There were only about 5000 .455 TLs assembled in the first place, some of which will have been lost through the decades. Many of the survivors have been converted. I'm not sure I'd think surviving originals could be called rare, but they probably deserve the label "not commonly found."
Not everyone would agree about the definition of 80%, but my sense is that a rustless .455 TL with a sound action and good bore/chambers, but some blue loss, would be close to $1000 in the worst case and maybe more than a thousand if the surface wear is not as bad as 80% makes it sound.
The all-in cost on my .455 TL, a 90% gun won from an auction house, was about $900. I thought that was a reasonable price. (The seller didn't get anywhere near that amount, of course.)

mh51, Remove the stocks/grips and check for the serial # on the right hand grip. It will be in pencil and may be difficult to see. This would make a difference to some people (me) as far as valuation. Here are some pics of one I got recently.

I've got one similar to yours. Fiocchi makes ammo for them and they are great fun to shoot. You have a great piece of history and machinery!

Gunfish......Thanks for the post, and the pics. The one I bought yesterday has more finish, and the bore and chambers are excellent. Grips are matching, and in nice shape. It has the British proof marks, and the letter says it was shipped to Remington-UMC for the British government.
Thanks for all the responses, and I'll get the forum figured out so that I can post some pics.
