Exclamation K-22, K-32, 38/44 Rock Island Auction Report

I have a good friend who participated in the recent Rock Island auction and was kind enough to share the auction books (two volumes) and the winning bids. Knowing we have constant inquiries and thread discussions on gun values, I wanted to share my recent discoveries. I only checked on the older Smiths, so please bear that in mind.

I offer the following for your perusal and illumination.

K-22 Masterpiece: Ser.#K37872 (1959* - their date), graded excellent - 98%, correct gold box - graded good. SOLD for $1,150.00

K-32 Masterpiece: Ser.#K319445 (1958), graded excellent - 95%, correct gold box - graded good. SOLD for $2,587.50

38/44 Outdoorsman Target: Ser.#S85905, graded excellent - 98%, correct gold box - graded good, all tools. SOLD for $1,380.00

I hope this helps put some perspective on prices. Please keep in mind these are auction prices - and any thing collectable is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it... or how badly you want it!

Blessings,
Hog

Thanks for the report. Do you know if those prices include the buyer premium that is from 15-19.5% depending on payment type. The premium greatly increases the cost of the gun.

I think they are pre-premium prices. I have a call in to my buddy to try to confirm one way or the other. I will advise.

I checked with my friend. The prices include the premium: 15% for cash or cash equivalent and 17.5% for charge cards. Hope this helps with some type of price "indexing", at least for like quality guns.

When you say "correct gold box" do you mean the box numbered to the gun, or do you mean a box not numbered to the gun but of the correct style? Seems like this would influence the price a bit.

I checked. The K-22 listing was the only listing that specifically mentioned that the box was numbered to the gun. The other two listing only stated that the boxes were correct two piece gold boxes.

Hope that helps!

Blessings,
Hog

More proof that S&W did not ship in serial number order. My K-32, s/n K236398, shipped 6/1955. The one above, K319445, stayed in the warehouse for a long time.

Edit: senior moment. I had the numbers turned around in my head. Makes perfect sense K238xxx shipped before K319xxx.
