What a dilema...
Hello to all. Went to a local pawn shop today looking for any old gun. Well, I found one. Made me want to cry. They had a S&W Victory model, this one is Army. Entire revolver is rusty. I mean the entire finish. You can see the original parked finish hiding. With a good cleaning it could be improved, however, it will still have substantial issues. Seems to function properly and actually the barrel bore is very good. Go figure. Has original grips but have quite a few significant dings. He had a $350 price tag but said $300 would be the out the door price. Seems too high to me. I can't seem to let it go. The old gun deserves better, a good cleaning at least. Imagine a very bad finish. Would you make an offer and if so what? Or, just forget it. I think I would take her for $200 but I know he would balk at the offer. Thoughts? Thanks...Dan

Walk in with four fifty dollar bills and lay them on the counter.
If he says no just pick them up, say thank you, and walk out!!
I'm betting that is the best offer he is going to get.
Can't hurt.

Good thought. Grant's make a good impression. Sometimes it is difficult to tell how deep rust is. I have been surprised in a good way & a bad way.

If he says no, let him keep another month. If it's gone he found a sucker. If it's still there, he'll be more ready to deal.

Hello Dan
It is very common for Pawn shop's to Pay a seller Only Half of the Listed price that a gun is Offered for in the pawn shop sales Show case. I would be willing to Bet they only paid $150.00 to $175.00 for it when they bought or Traded into it, if that Much. Offer them a Cash Price of $200.00 Out the door if you want it for that price Telling them it is Nothing More than A Door Stop in the condition that it is in, and be clear in saying that the Price of $200.00 include's Tax and Background check...I Bet you will own it.... Well, I told the suggested advice and plopped down $200 on the counter and......drum rolll.....he wouldn't take it. Did drop the price to $250 but I passed. One must have minimal discipline. Left him my contact info and a $200 offer. I guess you never know...thanks to all.

You did exactly the right thing. Bad surface condition has lots of risks, particularly
of it being worse than it looks.
Don't worry about it, if someone else take its. There is always another Victory
somewhere.

Sounds like you found "any old gun."
In your shoes, I would just keep looking and put the $200 toward something better.
