Kingwood Rosewood by Culina. One of the rarer varieties of rosewood. Really amazing grain. His wife must pick out all the wood.

Been a while since I was able to indulge my rosewood lust, but a set of stocks for...something... cropped up on ebay and I couldn't resist pulling the trigger.
I thought I would bump this great thread, although it's a bit sad there are so many lost pictures.
Anyway, what do you guys think. Brazilian Rosewood? Something else?
I Frame?
Anyone recognize who might have made them?
I have to say, half of why I am compelled to buy a set like this is that I have to wonder what gun they were made to be put on, and why aren't they on it?
The other half is that I am a hopeless rosewood junkie.

Hard to tell without seeing the whole back (inner) side of one or both panels, but if they are for an I-frame, they would be very nice on a little nickel plated snub... glam without looking “pimpified.”

I'm pretty sure my Grandfather's old, custom stocks are rosewood. These are somewhere between 65-79 years old.
They feel great in the hand.

Question : What kind of wood is Smith using today in its revolver grips? To me it looks much different than any of the wood they used to use or am I wrong on this?

Fun resurrected thread. These grips were custom made for me by Ajax way back when they had their business in Dallas and the original grips on this Star Model S cracked.

I know I am late to this thread, but had to show my two sets of grips that I am reasonably sure are Rosewood. the "Cokes" are on a 44 mag lettered to Feb. 21st 1957. Mr. Jinks indicated indicated it shipped with G.A. stocks. The second set of smooth Targets also have the Coke bottle profile, I think they are rosewood as well. This set is what was on the 44 when I bought it about 10-12 years ago.

shrade...the cokes are Goncalo alves. The smooth targets are definitely rosewood.

SixgunStrumpet, those look very much like the work of Art Jewel Enterprises. I didn't know they offered medallions as options but I'll bet they were the maker. Possibly to fit a J Frame round butt ? If so I'll bet they would look great on a Model 60 or other stainless gun.

Good call, they actually came in an Eagle AJE Box. Which, for some reason, the ebay seller didn't bother to mention in the auction!
In any case, I like them a lot, they are very very nice.
I also took your advice:
I think they will do just fine on my carry gun.

The magna stocks on this 1939 M&P target look to me like rosewood, but the factory letter says it was shipped with walnut. The stocks are of that era, but are not numbered to the gun.

I have 4 sets of pre-war K-frame magnas, and a couple of them are really dark and red colored, like that gun there. They don't appear to be rosewood to me however based on the grain.
