Default Interesting S&W Revolvers you've heard about...

but never seen...

Some years ago on this forum, a poster mentioned the existence of a Pre-Model 24 with a 3-1/2" barrel. Pictures were never produced, as far as I recall.

The SCSW mentions the existence of a few Highway Patrolman revolvers with an 8-3/8" barrel.

In the 44 Magnum book by Jinks and Cross, there is mention of a Model 29 revolver with a 3-1/2" barrel, but it is not among the beauties shown inside.

I'd love to see any or all of these guns.

How about you? What have you got?

I have heard of a REG Mag that was made in 22long.

I do not know the specifics of bbl length and who it went to but I hear it was done.

A square butt Baby Chiefs Special.

I've seen a photo here on the forum, but I've not seen one in person. I guess many would call it a "grail gun" for me.

I do not recall seeing a 3.5" pre-24, but I have seen a 3 1/4" 25-2 pinto... which I believe is really rare...

I recall seeing one or two photos, but never one in person. As an 8 3/8" .357 Magnum lover, I would love to add one to my collection.

This gun would be a handful, but a real beauty.

For me - as an engraved two-tone 3.5" .357 Magnum collector, I would love to see a Transitional magnum, or 27-1 that was factory engraved in that configuration...

The Brazilian model 10 that has a shrouded ejector rod. This is one I’d really like to have.

Also the fixed sight and 3 inch model 19s are interesting to me.

How bout a post war N frame with an 8.75 inch barrel? I’ve asked a couple times and nobody else has stated they have one...

The M-frame target with a 10" barrel mentioned in SCSW as "known to have been produced".

Bright blue/nickel 5 1/2" 44 magnum consecutive pair would be fabulous to see!

... I think your's is the only Transitional Magnum that letters as such. It is as rare as a post war N-Frame .357 Transitional Magnum with a lettered 8.5" barrel of which I think there is only one...

I heard Roy mention a Registered Magnum (I think it was a RM) that was shipped to South America, with a shoulder stock.

The postwar transitional .22/32 target remains a mystery to me. We know there are several examples of the rare postwar transitional 22/32 Kit Gun, but I have never seen the six-inch target equivalent. The model is said to exist by people whose knowledge and judgment I trust, but I have never seen a set of photos or learned of a confirmed serial number that would document the model's existence. There is one photo said to show a portion of the upper rear frame and hammer, but without a full photo or serial number, I cautiously consider this a lead rather than rock-solid evidence.

All the literature states that Triple Locks were produced with 6" barrels but, to the best of my knowledge, none have ever been identified as having been produced with a 6" barrel.

Wink

Can't say I haven't seen it but hope it letters for the man.
It was an 8" M&P target.

BTW that 25-2 looks to have a 3 1/2" barrel to me.
