Default 4-screw terrier in nickel

man, the smith snubby pickins' have been getting slim lately, but i found a fairly nice 53/54 vintage nickel terrier today. all the numbers match, and it appears to have been shot very, very little. terriers are getting awful hard to find, and i can't remember the last time i even saw a decent nickel one. i think it will wax up fine. i am pretty happy!

good grief! i had to replace that pic of the right side with one that doesn't have a complete reflection of my big bald head shining!

Both of those are gorgeous. Both are early ".38 Terrier Models of 1953" I frames. There are no J frame 4 screw Terriers. Only 4 screw .38 Chiefs Special Models of 1953 J frames and it's offshoots,Airweight, Bodyguard and Centennial.

Very nice. I would have thought nickel would have been more popular at that time than apparently it actually was. You got a good one there! H44, thanks for chiming in... it seems like the more I learn about the Terriers the more new information shows up to assimilate... like all the I-frames, they've been neglected far too long.

Nice catch!
Seems to me that at all the recent gun shows I've attended decent Smiths are becoming more rarer than hens teeth, anything wothwhile that is?

thanks! the more i think about it, i believe it is only the second nickel terrier i have ever rooted out, and the first one was a really bad refinish, and didn't have any "N"s stamped on it anywhere. he was asking 800 (!) for it, so i left it there!

i got this one cleaned up a little, and looked it over pretty closely.
i waxed it a few times, and most of it shined right up, but the right side of the frame was still a little subdued looking. i hadn't ever tried flitz, but i read some about it last night, and went to ace hardware and got a bottle this morning. it is good stuff! i went ahead and did the whole thing about 3 times, and man, it is looking nice! i don't have a whole lot of nickel guns, but i will admit that they are exciting!

I saw this terrier back in March. The same guy was walking the gun show and had an early chief too. I tried to get both for a sweet heart deal instead of paying up like I shoulda. This terrier is in VERY nice condition. I was unaware of how scarce the nickel terriers were at the time. Knowledge is power.

Congrats on a nice buy.

Charlie
