Default DOB on a pre-model 10?

I picked up a older K-frame .38 today. I think it is a pre model 10. It has the 4" pencil bbl and hump back hammer. No model number anywhere. Half moon front sight. SN# C 172xxx
Says .38 S&W Special CTG. On bbl. Also looks to have rings inside the cylinder but no lanyard ring in grip.

Any info would be great with year it was made. Came with the factory diamond wood grips.

It probably shipped in 1950-51.

Very nice! Thanks for the quick response. I wasn't intending to buy a gun today. Just stopped by my local gunshop and saw it in the case for a great price. I thought it was an old model 10 until I picked it up and saw the old style humpback hammer. I opened the crane and didn't see a model number so I knew it was at least before the model 10s started but I am not an expert on S&Ws by any means. I do love them though.
