Default SWHF letters

I got back my request for documents on several guns and in two instances these documents provided information about unknown owners. RM908 shipped to hardware store in Vancouver. Documents showed correspondence with "O. Rollag at Ft. St. James, BC'' as the owner who registered it. RM306 shipped to Fred Mears Clinton,NY but documents show he purchased it for Charles W. Law "an ace pistol shot who regularly shoots 7" dinner plates at 220yds with revolver". Also a k-22 which has a humpback hammer but letters without. Documents show he complained about action of gun and D.B. Wesson suggested he try the humpback hammer as shown by letter and invoice for hammer.

Sometimes nothing can be found. RM136 letters as going to VL&A in Chicago. No other documents. I guess this means it was Eliot Ness' top secret Capone capper!

If you have a gun shipped in the 1932-1941 time frame it might be interesting to get the SWHF documents. I'm glad I did.

I did an inquiry earlier this week on my 1935 K-22 OD. Unfortunately no documents were found.

Maybe next time.

The records can be hit and miss. I was able to get copies of an original customer order and the company's order book entry for an early .38/44 Outdoorsman, but an interesting .22/32 that had been back to the factory for modification turned up no hits. Perhaps with the extension of the searchable data base to the early postwar years I will be able to find something. I also have a gun that went back to the factory in the mid-1920s, and I wonder if there will be documentation of what happened on that occasion once the earlier records have been digitized.

Thanks for your encouragement ucla, I'm going to think about a .22 Outdoorsman shipped to an individual in 12/32. Would be good to have experience with the process.

I think the fees for obtaining a Letter ought to be based on how interesting the results are.

Some Hardware Store or Sporting Goods Store - $35.00

But, if the location was Alaska or Arizona, or Camp Perry, or foreign, and a long time ago, then, $40.00.

A real individual person, for whom a fast 'google' comes up 'zilch', $45.00

Some Gov't Agency or Police Dep't or Manufacuting Concern or Service Company - $55.00 ( but if Wells Fargo or the Pinkertons, or the Secret Service, then $60.00).

A real individual person - Military or Civillian - for whom a fast 'google' comes up with some fun and engauging info - $65.00 and up.

Lol...
