Looks to be a pre mdl 10 or possibly but unlikely a 12
The grips on the gun tell me it was most likely made between 1950 to 1967
Check to see the serial number on the butt this will help us with the exact model and age.
Also open the cylinder, take the bullets out and see if you see any numbers on the flat spot directly above the hinge, these numbers may also help.

A word of friendly advice, your profile says you are 18 years old, you are in a car with what appears to be a loaded gun. In my state that's jail time. Hopefully you live in a state where you can legally have a loaded gun in your car. Check your state law. If you get caught with it and it is against the law in your state to have a loaded gun in your car, it will be the last gun you ever legally own.

The hammer profile also points to 1950s manufacture, or even late '40s. S&W called this model the .38 Military & Police when they sold it. After 1957 they called it the Model 10. If you see the stamp MOD 10 on the frame, your gun is from the very late '50s. But I get a vibe that this is earlier than that. Serial number in the C100000-C200000 range?

That's good advice about vehicle carry.

It's legal when in a secured container, like a glove box, but I took the picture right outside of my home.

Thanks for the info, I'll find out those other serial numbers

The hammer and trigger style suggest 1955-57 on your rough looking Military & Police Model. Becomes the Model 10 in 1957.

Drive safe...

Looks like it's led a tough life, but that doesn't mean it's not a good shooter. Agree it's probably from the 50s to 60s, but SN will tell the tale.
