Default Help with Mfg. Date

Pre Model number Chiefs Special in .38 Special caliber. Four screw, flat latch, nickle, diamond grips with matching serial number. Serial number is 648xx. Anyone have any idea of Mfg. date. Added photos. Wish they were larger if anyone can fix this please do or tell me how.

Probably 1955, but Hondo44 is the real CS expert!

Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson shows Chief's produced in 1955 have serial numbers of 55050 to 75000 so yours is probably in there someplace. Great backup piece, by the way. Enjoy!

Sounds like a beauty: a fairly early (with 4 screws) Model of 1953.
I agree with Jack and sandwtrader on the mfg. date. These J frame 38s were hot sellers and probably shipped very soon after.

"Added photos- wish they were larger" ??? I don't see any photo's at all. Go advanced on your edit, then click manage attachments & upload your photos. That'll put them on there as thumbnails, which is all I know how to do.
