Default need info on smith and wesson model 35 .22lr

IMG_0683.JPG

I have a model 35 in good condition which belonged to my husband and would like to get an idea of its value; I would appreciate any information members can provide. I'm attaching a photo--from what I've read so far, this model was manufactured between 1957-1960.

I can provide photos of both sides of the gun; I do have the original box but no tools.

I deleted your pic because it was of the babies.
You can still add it.

merryxmas:

Condition is everything in price! If the Model 35 is like new with original box, tools and papers they will bring $1000+. If it has less than 90% finish with no box, more in the $500 range. The better the condition, the higher the value. Good photos of both sides would certainly help.

Default Thanks!

thanks for your information--I did attach an image of one side of the gun but can attach more images tomorrow--I believe it has at least 90% of its original finish and the original box. I went to a gun dealer who quoted me between 800 - 950. Anything more you can add would be most appreciated; I now have to decide if I'm ready to sell it.

There is one for sale locally similar to your with box in excellent condition for $1350, however it has been for sale for a long time so I suspect that price may be high.

A picture of the end of the box lid would also greatly help. There may be a sticker with the serial number on it. If so it would also say if it is a 35 or a 35-1

merryxmas,
The value of your gun has been covered. It's officially a Model 35, .22/32 Target made on S&W's I frame. It was changed to the slightly larger J frame in 1960. They are wonderfully accurate, cheap to shoot because of the .22 caliber chambering and good for hours of inexpensive fun especially for training the kids to shoot safely.

Default thanks!

many thanks for all of the replies and I welcome more readers and respondents--the box does have the serial number on the side, and I do think it's a 35-1. I appreciate the info about the one for sale at $1350 and I agree that price is probably too high. I am attaching more images to this post

Yep, it's a J frame made much later, after 1968. There's a bright spot on the end label photo right over the serial # so I can't pin it down any further than that.
Not quite as desireable as an earlier Model 35 I frame but still very desireable in that condition with box!

Ma'am, Jim has the correct information on when your model 35-1 left the factory; just adding that this model was discontinued in 1973, so it is from sometime in that 5 year time window.

If the dealer you mentioned was offering to buy it from you for $800-950, or willing to sell it for you at that price without an extravagant sales commission, I would find that a fair offer.

Welcome! No, the Presentation cases were primarily for N and occasionally for K frames, but custom liners could convert one for a J frame.

I think the dealer was suggesting a retail price, perhaps a gross selling price range if placed on consignment.I just don't see a dealer offering that much for a late J .22.

That Model 35-1 is the ultimate development of what began early last century as the "Bekeart Model" named for one of its chief supporters, Phil Bekeart. It was S&Ws first real effort at making a target grade 22 for wide consumption. It, along with the 4" Kit Gun, have always had a somewhat small but very enthusiastic following, and prices today are reflective of that popularity. For some ham handed folks like myself they are a bit challenging to shoot as well as the heavier K22/Model 17, but they do have a kind of class all their own.

The model 17 and 18 are basically a .22 bore version of a .38 K-frame gun. Wish S&W would bring back a classic version of the smaller
model 35. I hope to pick up an old 35-1 if I can find one. Only thing I'm not sure about is heard they have an aluminum frame, if so, for it's size, sounds jumpy?

The aluminum frame and cyl version you're thinking of is the Model of 1955 22/32 Kit Gun Airweight, made only with 3 1/2" barrel and a few rare 2" versions. It became the Model 43 after 1957.

Steel frame glad to hear that. Sounds perfect for your lady to come to the range with you. Noticed a lot of couples are going together. I'll pick one up sooner or later, like everything about it.
