I picked this gun up recently. In looking in SCSW it appears to be a 38/44 Transition Model. It did also say that they were fazed out by serial number
75206, mine is 72124.
I can see the four line address of course of later guns, does mine appear still to be of "transition" status ? All parts are numbered correctly and appear original. Except for grips of course, those were missing so I put a pair I had on.

Hammer looks correct for a transition.

The serial number does have the S prefix, correct?

It's got a 4 line address on the right side of the frame, but long throw hammer. So it's a later transition or someone swapped in an earlier hammer, which is possible. It's got an S prefix right?

You have a correct 38/44 Heavy Duty Transition. The 5 inch barreled guns still have the large ejector knob and the long action. Most likely yours does not have any writing on top of the barrel and that was discontinued earlier. I have a commentary on this that goes into greater detail. Actually, the highest serial numbered transition HD I know of is S75704. They issued the instructions to transition to the short action 1950 model at S72200 but it wasn't until S75514 that any N frame short action was shipped.

That is one sweet HD!!!! I love mine, and I will never part with it. I love the stocks you gave on it I need to get me a pair like them. When I got mine it had goodyears on it, and I am looking for a nice set of period stocks and I will add a Tyler T-Grip when I find em.

Another nice old gun. Some have had the chambers reamed for .357M by previous owners. The one I have is reamed, I don't shoot magnum in it but it shoots terriric with .38sp.
