Jim, I had a shotgun that was made from an old percussion rifle. As I recall it was called a Zulu. As I recall it was converted from an old French Musket. Here is one ZULU SHOTGUN 12GA. for sale (976377564)

Regarding Coke grips, technically those were used only on N frames, not Ks. Nonetheless, yours look like Cokes and maybe they actually are if it was a presentation revolver.
Not sure what you mean here? N frame target grips referred to as cokes have the coke profile from behind, and there is no photo of the grips from behind. The checkering pattern has nothing to do with how they got the name "cokes" but cokes do have a larger checkering pattern than N frame target grips made before or after. That would not matter however, because as you said, the gun is a K frame and so they are not coke grips. It would not matter if the gun was a presentation gun, as it still would not have had cokes since its a K frame, as we all know. A presentation example would have more likely came with smooth presentation stocks. Also, this gun was made long before cokes even existed, but it happened to ship when they were around. The gun also is not a presentation revolver. It is a standard K-32, with some options.

I thought I would post this so no one gets confused and pays more or asks more for a K frame revolver because of the rare "coke" bottle grips.

Yep now were getting closer. But this thing is thicker in the back and the stock was cut down lower so the rear can swing open and you can load a shell.

I still have to go over and get pics of that one, I dont have it here right now....

It's a Snider conversion. See: Snider Conversion "Zulu" Tabatiere Breech Loading Shotgun, 12ga - Antique Cartridge Shotguns

The Snyder was just another post-Civil War method for converting muzzle-loading rifles and muskets into breechloaders, just as that was the original intent of the Springfield Trapdoors. The British Empire used Snider Carbines for quite awhile, and they are often seen in Canada, but not so much in the US.

The Remington organization is in North Carolina now, and as it has been 55 years since 'Ed" retired, there is probably no one around who would have known him. But if you don't try, you won't get an answer. There may be someone there with access to old Remington personnel rosters and organization charts which might identify "Ed" especially if you can come up with a last name. Just fire off a "to whom it may concern" letter explaining the situation and see what happens.

Ok, I just got the revised letter back from Roy along with a copy of the page of the book that it was found on. Seems it was shipped in 1951 not 1957. The entry was hand written as some of them are, and its not clear what the last digit of the year was. It looks to me like a 1 as Roy has now stated. And I can definitely see how it could have been mistaken for a 7. However its buried in all early 1952 numbers. 58 sn's before it were shipped in early 1952 and 9 after it were shipped in early 1952.....

I'm guessing that they were made and put in storage and randomly taken off the rack for shipping. What options were there? I know there was 2 different grips you could get... were there any other grips offered? was there any other options? Maybe the deliveries jumped around based on options, like if they were grouped on the shelf by options and not in order by SN ? If the grips are in-fact very rare then that may explain why the gun shipped December 14th 1951 with a SN more common to feb mar and april 1952...

It says the gun was shipped with 6" barrel, low spur hammer, blue finish, and checkered walnut target grips. are any of these options besides the walnut target grips?

The low spur hammer (target hammer) was an option.

I finally got a chance to take some better close up shots of my wife's K-32.
I don't know if these pictures are good enough quality to see the condition. The only visible wear marks are on the cylinder where something drags on it while rotating when firing and on the very end of the barrel where the bluing is slightly worn off.
Otherwise it would pass as a pistol that was new in the box at a gun store.
What condition or number rating would I say it is if she were to list it for sale? Now that you see better pictures of it what would she expect to get for it?

Thanks

Missed it by seventeen days.... Since I am trying to find all the models shipped in '52, I was ready to offer a kidney. Your wife has a beautiful K-32. It is the "grail" gun for many and would fill the last space in more than one collection. I love it when these heirlooms surface. Very often they are immaculate and a pleasure to see. OldDominion

Condition can be described subjectively (often a % rating is in the eye of the beholder), or objective. I think the description and photos you posted would be perfect for documentation or selling purposes (but I hope you keep it! )

Based on the new pictures I would rate the gun at 97-98% but with out holding the gun in hand it is difficult to give it a real percentage. in 2010 I sold a pre-16 and a Model 16 both in 98%+ condition for around $3000 a piece to a dealer, who I am sure got more for them than that. A very hard to find gun and extremely desirable.

Thanks guys for all your input.
Now its up to her what she wants to do with it. At this point I doubt she will shoot it anymore. Its most likely going to be a safe queen now.

I've got a few more details.... his name is Ed Geiner President of foreign sales Remington DuPont.... He would be about 96 years old by now.

Does that name ring any bells for anyone?

Ive written to Remington so well see what they can add.

I knew early on if the gunshop offered $300 for it that it had to be worth a lot more! You are very lucky to have that gun!

I did a very quick Google search (and so probably did you) and found nothing mentioning an Ed Geiner associated with Remington. Hopefully, the Remington organization might be able to provide some additional information. Or you might want to get on one of the Ancestry-type genealogy websites to see what might be found, and possibly find some family contacts. Lots of gun owners really get their kicks by doing historical research about previous owners of their guns. Did the factory letter state where the revolver was sent?

The gun was sent directly to Remington from S&W. Roy said it was sent in a small group of guns... several others were on record as going to Remington but no other k-32's.
