I am not sure I have ever thought about these guns that way, but I would think I might pay up to $100 more for the high polish variety if I happened to be considering two guns in 98-99% condition with the two different finishes.

Are we talking about the Pre 23 or the Pre 20? I know there were high polish ODs, but I am not sure about the Heavy Duty. I have no reason to think there aren't any, but I just don't remember seeing one.

I have a high polish Pre-23 that shipped in January 1956 but probably sat in inventory for a while. By that time more guns were being produced in high polish anyway.

I think the original factory upcharge of 10% still applies.

I have a Heavy Duty from 1956 with high polished finish. It shows signs of being a duty gun and I don't think it's worth much more than the standard, just interesting.

If you are a specialized collector and want every variation of model, then you probably would be willing to ante up some more $ for a high polish gun, if you needed it to fill the niche. In my experience, most of the sellers of a high polish gun are not always aware that the gun is not a standard finish, and therefore do not ask a premium. As Charlie says, the 10% premium paid originally would be a good guide to start with. Ed.

I agree with Ed, but would caution that a good refinish could fool a lot of people on whether the finish is original. If you ask the question on a letter request and the gun was ordered with the high polish, it seems that your letter will come back with that information.

For reference, here's a Heavy Duty from 1955 with a high polished finish.
