Default Manufacture Date & Value via serial number

In response to my previous post. Here are some pics of my S&W DA45 nickel plate. I believe this is chambered for 45 Colt.

I posted that it had a serial number of 173264, which matched the serial number on the cylinder. I also noticed on the inside of the frame a number of 36022. As you can see in the pictures, there is extensive wear on this weapon. Any idea of what it may be worth would be greatly appreciated.

I responded to your other post. You have a commercial model 1917, from the SN of 173264 and the small S & W logo just below the cylinder latch. The 36022 is a factory internal code, not related to the SN. These are uncommon compared to the military 1917s.

In the photo of the cylinder, I think I see at least three chambers with shoulders about halfway in; this would indicate it is still chambered for .45 ACP, but the best way to check is to see if a .45 Colt will seat fully. I would guess it will not.

Since it is worn and refinished, it is not in the collector range of value. If the bore and chambers are clean (not pitted from corrosive ammo or neglect) and it functions normally, I would guess $500 or so.

The 36022 is a work/assembly number, not related to the serial number. The gun appears to be a refinsh in nickel of a standard Model 1917 in .45acp caliber. Why do you believe it's caliber .45 Colt ? The cylinder is a .45acp cylinder. It has no collector value, but as a shooter it might bring $350-$450, if it's mechanically tight. Ed.
