S&W Bodyguard
Hello,
New here and have a few questions on two S&W firearms. First is a short barrel 5 shot revolver with nickle plating, and what looks like Mother of Pearl grips. The hammer is shrouded with the tip of the hammer exposed for single action cocking. The serial number is J796391 This revolver is in amazing condition. I would conservatively rate is at 90-95%. I will try to load a few pictures. When was this made and what is approximate value. Thanks everyone!

Second pistol is a S&W semi auto pistol. It's marked 35 S&W CTG on the left side of the barrel. It looks really old and from what I can find it is called a model 1913 I think. The serial number is 4064. It is in about 95% condition. I would like year of MFG and a ballpark value. THanks so much!

Welcome to the Forum.
This Model 49 Bodyguard with nickel finish dates from about 1981. It is a carbon steel revolver. The alloy frame Model 38 was its Airweight equivalent. The stocks are not original, but they look pretty good against that nickel - probably why someone used them to replace the checkered walnut that came with your revolver.

I'm new here as well. Been around S&Ws for a long time, though. Might even know a thing or three but not much more than that.
I have a similar gun but it's a "649", the stainless version. Those grips look good but I don't particularly like to keep originally shaped grips like that on J-frames I plan to shoot. If I'm not shooting it then the pretty things are very cool as are the plain wood original grips.
Your second gun is an early 20th century automatic pistol (we used to call them that donchano!) designed to compete with Colt's new Pocket Hammerless.

You know, I have to correct what I said about the grips. I don't mind keeping the original grips so long as I modify them with the addition of Tyler T-Grips. I have Tyler T-grips on more of my revolvers than not.
