Default Gol medallion stocks?

At the moment, and with 5 days remaining, there are two sets of grips on ebay from the period between 1910 & 1919. The prices for both are zooming out of control, at least for my budget.
My question concerns the medalions. Both sets have the large brass medallions, but, in the photos, they look really bright. Did I read in the SWSC that the medallions originally had a gilt wash over the brass?

Yes, they should be bright, but usually they look somewhat dull - perhaps the seller has polished them for the photos.

Gold flashed or plated over brass. If they are polished too much they could be thru the gold and down to the brass though.
