Question about a .32 long revolver
My question:
Is this old S&W revolver safe to fire .32 LONG present day factory ammunition? {Assuming it's in good mechanical condition}.
It's a model of 1903, 5th change, 'I frame' .32 long, manufactured around 1912, serial no 1266XX
Thank you for any and all comments.

Should be no problem. I have a couple of .32s of similar age and I have no qualms about shooting .32 wadcutter loads in them.

The .32 S&W and .32 S&W Long began as black powder cartridges. When smokeless powder became available, the ammo manufacturers had no recourse but to make their smokeless cartridges compatible with the many BP guns or they would have no market. So smokeless cartridges in these calibres are okay to shoot in the old guns.

Donald Paul, my first (and for a long time, only) 32 S&W was a 3rd Model just a little newer than yours and I'd hate to guess how many factory S&W Long factory and factory equivalent loads have been through it. If you are not knowledgeable about revolvers, it would be a good idea to have a qualified person check out its condition for you, then have at it! BTW, the 32 S&W Long is one of the easiest rounds to handload for. Save that brass and the amount of powder and lead used is almost embarrassingly small!

Since you just added a “Like” can I assume you are shooting and hopefully reloading for your little 32? I certainly hope so... how about a range report/update?
