Default HAND EJECTOR MODEL TYPE HELP?

Hi, I am fairly new to this thread. Would like to ask the expert community about this S&W hand ejector model I currently own. I believe its a 1st change because the serial number under the cylinder is 500xx, but on the butt handle and on the edge of the cylinder their is another number
971xx. Which is the right one? I got this beauty from an 80 something year old man that told me he had it sent to S&W and they put their original pearl handles and had it nickled. The pearl handles have the S&W circle logo on them. the last dates patent on gun are 1906 or 08 cant distinguish. I will post pics if I can. Can someone help I have spent hours and hours looking for the info. and value Thanks You

Welcome to the Forum.

The number on the butt and the rear of the cylinder is the serial number. The one on the frame is an assembly number.

What caliber and how many shots does the cylinder hold?

Welcome to the forum.

I believe you meant to say the 500XX is under the barrel (or possibly under the cylinder EXTRACTOR STAR). The grip frame butt and cylinder #'s are the correct serial #; 971XX. Which means you have a 32 HE Mod of 1903-4th Change if 32 Cal. 38 M&P Mod 1905 -4th Change if 38 cal., with an earlier barrel.

If it went back to S&W for re-finish and mother of pearl stocks there should be a date stamp on left side of grip frame under the pearl stock and maybe a star there as well or on the butt by the s/n.

The factory MOP stocks add to the value especially if factory installed and #'d to the gun on the backside of the right stock. But the replaced part and changed to a non-original nickel finish detract from value. W/o better photos to judge the finish a ballpark IMO is $400 to $500.

REVISED: If Muley Gil is right then the # you meant under the cyl is the assembly in the yoke joint, and all parts are original, I'll go with $500.

thank you so much for your time in answering my question. Yes it is a 32 cal. I did remove the handle carefully and did not see a serial stamp to indicate it was from S&W only a F stamp. on the handle though there is the logo SW on the top part of pearl handle if you can see on the frame, I will post a clear picture of condition.
