Default U.S. Navy Victory Value

I found a U.S. Navy marked Victory revolver in a pawn shop today. It does not appear to be refinished and the finish is in good shape, no rust, no pitting no missing finish. It has large brass/gold colored medallion checkered grips in good condition. The only thing is that the lock up is not as tight as I am used to. They want $729.00 for the gun. I am not sure if they will deal. I really want the grips for an Outdoorsman I bought earlier this week, but I do not really want the Victory as I have an early 20's nickel pre-10 in my collection.

Is the price out of line? and what would the grips be worth?

Thanks,
Bill

If it is stamped U.S. Navy on the left topstrap only, even with the stocks it is $150-200 high. The stocks you describe are from the 1910 decade; the K-22 Outdoorsman would have had silver medallion stocks.

Bill,

Grips that fit on a Victory (K Frame) will not fit on an Outdoorsman (.38-44)(N Frame). The grips with the sunken gold medallion are too early for both the Victory and the Outdoorsman.

The price doesn't sound too far out of line for a Navy Victory but if you don't want it, don't buy it, particularly if it doesn't lock up properly. If the gun is otherwise in excellent condition and the lockup is loose it means that someone has probably abused it by flipping the cylinder open/closed.

Default Thanks

I was wary of the price but wanted expert opinions. I just found a set of original grips for $59.95 so I am going to pass on this one.

Thanks again for all your help. That's why I love this forum.
