Question about factory letter
Hello
Can someone tell me approximately, what the turn around time is on getting a factory letter?
Thanks Bob

It depends on, the Historian's, Roy Jinks, schedule. It can be a month when the backlog isn't too bad or it can be 3 months if he has been on the road to S&W events.

Thanks for the information. I mailed it in and I'll wait and see if he can find anything.

If it helps I sent mine in around the middle of March and still haven't gotten it back. Patience is a virtue.

Roy recently posted a reply to someone who asked that the time for a letter was currently running 16 weeks before he answered.

I believe he is just starting in on the February letters. I sent mine in mid-march as well.

factory letter
I didn't realize it was that common for Smith & Wesson to have no records for guns they made.
I guess I'll just wait and hope for the best.
Thanks for the information.

Sent my letter in in early March. Nothing as yet but check cleared so I know it's there. Roy's the only one doing them and there are a lot of requests. Also he recently was out of the office for a bit. But it'll come along.

As my check cleared almost 2 1/2 months ago I decided to check to be sure it hadn't become lost. Called customer service and explained to the young lady that I wasn't complaining but wanted to be sure all was still going along ok. She said just a minute, I'll connect you. Then the phone was answered and it was Roy Jinks himself.
Apparently answers his own phone as well as doing all the historic stuff. I explained the situation and apologized for bothering him knowing how busy he is and he asked what the gun was, I told him and he said, "Just a minute, I think I just did that letter." He came back on in s few seconds and said, "It went out today." Once again, great service from SW.

Would someone please explain the process for requesting a letter. I've gone to the S&W site and end up like a dog chasing its tail. They make mention of a form letter that I have yet to find. If I knew where to send the letter and how much money to enclose I can probably figure out the rest. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

backer...click and Downloads at the top of the screen and then click on factory letter request form. You can print a copy, fill out the required information, send it to S&W with your payment, and wait for the response from Mr. Jinks.

Letter
I havw sent in request and Roy has sent them back in 4 weeks and, some in 3 months, but i have also called S&W and talked to Roy on anything i needed to know. He is just backed up and will get to you. As for Smith not having records for older guns is due to a fire at the factory and lost all.

Received my Jinks letter today. Mailed request on March 18th.
Standard 2 page letter; first page a generic history of the Model 28 and second page specific to my Highway Patrolman. The age I'd figured was correct; 40 years old, shipped from the factory Nov. 30, 1972 to a company in Westfield, Ma. Camfour, Inc. Anyone know anything about them? Apparently they're still in business according to the net but looks like they're a supplier to dealers only. Anyway, neat to have the letter in the 28's fiLe.
