Default Pawn Shop find

I come across this several months ago at a local "hole-in-the-wall" pawn shop near me. I wasn't sure what it was at first, I finally was able to get some pictures and post them here and some members were able to help alot. Appears to be a M&P Pre model 10 with the pre war grips. All numbers match including the grips. Bluing is around 96-97% but it has some rust freckles here and there. The hang tag states that it is a S&W M&P 2nd Model 1st change which I now know it was mislabeled. And thanks to Hondo44, who said "Maybe if you can help the seller identify its correct vintage, the price will come down to earth". Well, it worked. They originally were asking $1225 , and they marked through that price and were asking $899, bargain huh! Well after giving them the info I learned here I made them a decent offer and they took it, well below their last asking price. I also gave them my card and they are going to call me when old ones come in and help them with prices. The other guy wasn't much help. (obviously). So, still being new at this, what is everyones opinion on what it's worth? Ship date? Serial is C586XX.

Good looking specimen, probably from 1949. Prices soared and then started down again over the last several months, but I would think a reasonable price on that gun today would be $475-550 depending on the part of the country where it is offered.

You did not get hurt on that. One in that condition doesn't come around every day.

I applaud your taste in old guns. Here is mine, ser no. C56xxx. Roy Jinks said it shipped in Sept 1949. It is a keeper because that was the same month I was shipped to Hartford CT. Yep, we are the same age.

That is beautiful and your pictures are excellent as well! I love those grips. I can't help you much with value on that one but I would gladly pay $500.00 for one that nice.

Whoa! That's a beauty.

Good show, you not only got him down to earth, but a few feet under for that one.
I would have gladly paid that and probably still be dickerin' if he said no to 5 bills.
I can sure see Sargent Friday packin' it.

Nice snag, Jeff! Here's her sister about 1 year down the road. (Oops threw an extra 0 in there. This one shipped in 1948.)

Mine is similar to yours except it's a non-model marked 4 screw. Ser# C4108XX. I also found it in a pawn shop about five years ago for $400.00. I've shot it several times and occassionally conceal carry with it in a belt holster. Yours is worth what you paid and then some. Good find! Now go shoot it.
