This dude really wanted a HD.....
I know we have seen this posted before.
But I find it remarkable.
Looks like two deep pockets had the itch
for the same S&W HD pre 20....
Surprised at the closing price.
Nice HD with Heiser rig.
Neat package.
Just a moment...

It looks like a very clean, collector grade gun. Those often go for much more than the average "shooter" grade gun. Condition is everything. It is not hard to find a beater. Cherries are rarer and desired by serious collectors. Prices can get a little crazy on these.

You know, if you are looking for a collector grade piece and you find one, what's $400 or $500 or even $800 over a run of the mill version? How soon will you find another?

I don't find that price unreasonable for a mint HD.

Yeah $2300 for that is high, but not crazy, especially these days. I'd be happy as the seller, but I'd not feel raked over the coals as the buyer if I was in the market for it. Most of my friends' rent went up more than $500 in the last three years, what's that markup on a nice HD?

Many things can factor into bidding. At an on-site auction, a good auctioneer can draw out extra money with his banter. Two bidders with deep pockets can produce high bids. Show offs? The price goes up.
On line auctions, well, alcohol may be involved in high bids. The serial number may have been important to one of the bidders.
I am looking for a birth year Model 1955 Target 45 ACP revolver. Would I bid one up? Maybe.
