Default How Do You Field Carry Your K-22?

Interested in learning more about carry methods for longer barreled guns. Not particularly interested in shoulder holsters, as they are too big a departure from belt holsters. Curious about others' experiences with crossdraw field holsters (pros and cons), especially those of the full flap variety. Pictures would be fantastic and appreciated.

I use a variety of strong side field holsters for my 2"-5" barreled K and N frame revolvers. Most are from El Paso Saddlery (Tom Threepersons and Austin styles), but I have also managed to find some vintage S.D. Myers and H.H. Heiser holsters over the years.

I am considering trying some sort of crossdraw holster for the longer barreled guns. I thought I would start with my 6" barreled K-22s/K-38s. This would be my first holster for anything with a barrel over 5" in length. Thinking either an EPS Tom Threepersons or Austin with a retention strap or an EPS 2000 full flap holster. I have never used a full flap holster, but it seems like it might be a good option for a hunting/field holster.

The accounts I have heard and read indicate some people like the idea of a crossdraw holster because the handgun is accessible without being in the way while crouching/sitting or bumping into a long gun carried strongside on a sling.

Looking forward to hearing about your experiences and preferences.

I use a Bianchi Cyclone 111 for my K22. It is crossdraw or strongside. I use it crossdraw for the reason stated above, carrying my rifle on my right side. Also great for sitting. I do not have a flap holster but can see the benefits.

A holster of any kind is hard on the Patridge front blade of the K-22, wearing off the blacking and eventually rounding the corners. I don't recommend carrying any target pistol in a holster. Furthermore a 6" barrel is hard to extract from a belt holster without jabbing your thumb into your armpit.

If you want to plink, get a nice 4" barrel with a ramp front sight, and choose from dozens of suitable holsters. A K-22 is best carried in a range bag or zippered bench rug.

If you are determined to use a holster, then Alessi makes a "Fieldmaster" shoulder holster that's easy to put on and use. A number of companies make a "tanker" style holster that holds the gun at an angle across your chest. There are also cross-draw holsters, including Galco, which would work pretty well. Galco holsters tend to have a sloppy fit on your belt.

Wink

You can turn a strongside holster to a crossdraw by switchin' sides on your belt.
Poor people have poor ways.

I bet the Diamond D Guide's Choice chest rig could be ordered with a sight channel that would work with a patridge sight.

I try to purchase suede lined holsters for all my more valuable handguns with the blues or nickel finishes. This way the finish doesn't get marred in time.
