Default Grip types?

Can anyone give me info on what type or size grip fit's these pre-model 10 series revolvers? It's easy to buy a grip for a j frame, but I'm lost here. I would like a combat style grip since this old gun will be added to the home protection stash.

A postwar M&P could have either a round or a square butt grip frame. Identify what type you have and any K frame grips for that shape will fit.

This is from The Gun FAQ's:

PS. If it's for the gun you posted about here (Year and model? England stampings), any square butt K frame grips should work.

If you are looking for correct period stocks, they won't be "combat style in either butt-frame style. S&W made target style stocks that are extended for a great grip, but if we knew what the serial number range is for the K frame you have, might be able to point you to some specific stocks.

I should mention that if you are not looking for period correct stocks, you might want to check ebay for the new manufactured Thailand stocks. There are a ton of them for sale and they have several styles for both round and square butts. I did buy a set for a non-S&W and must say that they are very nice and fit the revolver perfectly.
