Like a man with a vasectomy, the link shot a blank. Do you have another one, or is it just my computer?

Ok, I see you changed it...

I would hope the next owner learns how to clean the cylinder. Seems to have leading or fouling. Yes, its a very nice 50 year old gun. Not perfect, but very good. I'd be tempted to rate it at 98%, which is real good. I'd sell mine for that amount. Except the 2nd models.

I bought a similar one, 1960, within the last year with all the goodies and in near 99% cond. for about 1/3 that and I felt it was a fair price. That feller must have really wanted that one!

I saw that one....I doubt very highly that it was a "real" auction.....The two bidders who were fighting over it started in after it topped $900 or so and both had pretty low feedback ratings......

I suspect this as well. That price is just stupid. I paid a bit over a third of that for my 1958 K22 last year. It's in nearly as nice condition and came with the box, tools, warranty card, and a period Lawrence holster, but no "Helpful Hints." I felt like I paid on the high side of the going rate, as well. That auction was either shill bidding, someone really dumb, or someone with so much money they don't care what something costs. My guess is shill bidding.

My guess is it was probably NOT shill bidding. No dealer would risk loosing the sale completely as the gun went into La La land prices above $1500. Plus, look at the seller's other auctions to compare it to, nothing fishy at all.

The seller has hit on the winning combination to get absurd prices on GB. 1) A minty popular gun 2) Beautiful, crystal clear outside pictures 3) No reserve auction starting at $.01 4) Be lucky enough to get 2 bidders into a war!

As a dealer myself, I can tell you it happens and more often than you would think! Not shill bidding in my case at least, but real bidders, often NR (no rating) that pay real money. Just go look at my friend Jack the Dog's past auctions if you want proof of crazy bidding wars.

I would tend to agree. Model 17s in great shape aren't that hard to find for a third that price.

Well I guess some people have no control when they are in an auction and want something but this is stupid behavior. It would be interesting to know if the deal was ever actually completed with the payment made and the gun shipped.

Thats a shill bid that went wrong... the "winner" just joined 8/22/13 and has feedback from only one "won" auction very old ebay tactic that runs rampant on GB, unfortunately...

That's what causes the "value" of so many collectible guns to go through the roof. A couple of deep pocket nuts that won't give up and wind up with an impossible price. Then all the dealers say, well one went for $XXXX last week. I just hope the seller doesn't get stuck and have to re-list it.

It might be interesting to check back on it in a week or so and see if the "buyer" gets a demerit on it. I have to think alcohol was involved.

12 days and counting and no feedback posted by either seller or buyer.

I am particularly interested in this auction as I have K409437 as new in the box
that I just sold to a GOOD friend for $700. Just what I paid for it.
Because that is what friends do .

Keep the faith,

Allen Frame

Something doesn't pass the "smell test" on that auction.

Allen as always you are a good friend. Always giving me first shot at the guns you decide to part with. From the 65 to the 27 to both 686's to the 317's and now to the 17. Thanks brother.

Great minds think alike. Today I went back to check and see if there had been any movement in the "feedback" section. A shill bidder is looking more and more probable.

It may be a set up or it just may be legit. After all, it only takes is a pair of bidders with deep pockets and an instant gratification complex. I've also seen auctions where at least two bidders who, for whatever reason, cannot watch the auction and place a ridiculously high bid on an item to assure they win. The automatic bidding soon takes them well over the items legitimate value. Additionally, we all know that "value" comes down to what someone will pay for an item. As a dealer for Randall Made knives, I've seen automatic bidding bring $1,000.00 for a 1960 Randall catalog and I've also seen an otherwise sane individual pay $22,500.00 for a 1965 Randall knife. Believe it or not, he wanted to own the most expensive Randall ever sold at auction. He sold it two years later for $15,000.00. It seems P.T. Barnum was right!
