Interesting LGS Find 10-2 Information Request **Updated Pics**
**Got her home and cleaned her up...Cleaned up really nice**
Hi guys...I just bought a 10-2 today at my LGS..Guy traded it in as I was standing there...i bought it for real Steal....
The Model 10 is completely out of my wheelhouse..Could some forum members chime in and let me know a little on this find
It has a really bad finish, but the Bore is Nice and all numbers match...The grips are dirty but in really good shape...
Here is my question...I see that the 10-2 was only made in 1961 and Smith made the change to the LH screw in on the ejector Rod. the serial number also puts it there..C5975XX. Does this make it a more desirable gun...Or is it just a great shooter I can let my wife have fun with and carry in the glove compartment...
Here are some pics
Cleaned Her up a little....She actually cleaned up really nicely

From what I see in the pictures, if it's in good mechanical condition, you've got a $200.00 gun. Shoot it and throw it in the glove box.

Probably shipped about 1962. $200 is not terrible for any original M&P in shooting condition at present. I don't think the thread direction makes any difference in desirability. At least not in that condition.

From my perspective the 10-2 makes for a round out for model 10 collectors who are looking for all variations. Shoot that one, and I know the kids will have a great time with it.

I have a few guns, both K and N frames that the book says should have been built in '60, '61, '62 etc., yet when I asked Roy, they all shipped one to two years later than their serial numbers would indicate. I'm not sure if that was common during that time frame or not, but so far it has certainly been my experience with guns made then.
If that gun were a lot closer to being minty, then I'd find a nice spot/slot for it to stay in my collection seeing as it was a one or two year actual production gun, but as it is, it is just a nice old Smith to have, shoot, and enjoy.

BTW- it did clean up pretty good. Which cleaner/polisher compound did you use on it?

Good find. Looks decent now but not so pristine that you are afraid to use it. I don't care for glove box storage, just not secure enough. I used to keep an old 38 around as a loaner... the occasion of a young relative with a child who needed some night protection for a time... I lived just down the street.

I used a Silicone drenched Shammy, a Micro-fiber cloth, and a softbristle Toothbrush. I used a little Rem oil as well initially......
I also found that its easier to go shoot about 40-60 rounds and get her nice and hot...Then I hit it again with the Silicone shammy and the lead and other junk comes right off easily...
I might hit it with Flitz, but I think it looks good for a everyday shooter now...
Im going to let the wife and kids shoot this weekend and see if the wife wants it for her Truck....She already said to UGLY for her purse....LOL...

Nice gun and great pictures. The gun really cleaned up good from the looks of the pictures but tell me how you knew it was a "her" instead of a "him".

Thread direction matters a lot to a person who will carry and shoot his guns instead of just collect them. There is a reason they changed the thread direction. No one wants the extractor rod loosening.
That's a change that was long overdue!
I'm glad this gun cleaned up as well as it did. But be very wary of rust recurring where it was. I can't tell from photos whether this gun is blue or nickel?
