Default New to me Pre-26 1950 .45 Target

I found this here in the classifieds and as soon as I saw it, I knew it would be mine. It's an all numbers matching gun in very nice shooter condition, perfect for shooting and collecting. The SCS&W says there were only 2,768 pre 26 and model 26's produced between 1950 and 1961. According to Roy, this gun shipped sometime in September, 1954.

A small amount of Flitz cleaned up the metal parts. Dish liquid and a brush cleaned up the grips, followed by three applications of Formby's Lemon oil. Some Renaissance wax on both and she's ready for pictures.

I'm planning on shooting some steel plate shoots with it and I was lucky enough to find a NIB vintage Lawrence holster for it, also here in the classifieds (thanks again for two very smooth and easy transactions Lee and Randy). I added the Tyler-T's and she feels just right.

I shot mine once and was very happy with the results. Been a while since then and was thinking of selling it, almost too nice to shoot. Looks like a nice gun there Rick, see if it shoots as good as mine does. Like the look of the lite barrel, Larry

That does look sweet, and the rest pictured as well. Mine is S 98470, and shipped 2 years earlier. These are beautiful guns.

Rick, that's a screamer!

I wouldn't hesitate to shoot it either. But I would only holster it in a lined holster.

Now that I've retired and reached my golden years, some of life's top pleasures is a good cup of coffee, watching a beautiful woman and a N frame revolver.

Nice! My nearly identical 1950 Target, S100373, also shipped in September, 1954, with a serial number just 943 units later than yours.

The five-screw pre-26 is one of my favorite S&W models. Congratulations on adding that one to the safe.

Jim - Beautiful pre 26!. Is that a 5" barrel? If so, does the gun letter that way?

No, 4 1/4" and won't letter as I understood when I bought it. Also refinished and not by S&W but just as well done. The cheap price was very attractive! The original non-relieved targets have been shortened as well, and fixed the complaint I have with factory non-coke grips, so they fit me perfect.

I am delighted with this gun especially for what I paid. If it was a factory rare barrel length I would shoot it some but not near as much or enjoy it as much as I do this one. It's completely guilt free and shoots like new money!

Regardless of the modifications, Hondo, that looks beautiful, and I would be proud to own and shoot it.
