King Super Target, Ropers, K-22 2nd Model, perfection?
So. Let me tell you a story. It all started on the 27th day of September 2013 when I said this thing in a thread about K-22s.
Recently those dastardly villains known as the Woodlawn Boys posted an auction. One that I decided I would win regardless of the financial strain I put on me or how many other guns had to go to fund it. The way I figured it if there are other guns like this out there the owners probably won't part with them very easily, and I wouldn't have another chance maybe ever to buy one.
So as I usually do when I post one of these, apologies to whoever else was bidding on this.
So there we have it. The first gun I ever decided that I would own regardless of what other things I had to part with to do it.
I have no regret. But a request for advice, I do have.
Clearly this gun had some form of target stocks on it in the past from the finish wear, I'm guessing Ropers. These Ropers as you guys likely know from the other thread are actually N frame.
Given the gun, do you guys think I should see about getting them fully converted to K or see about restoring them back to N and then just trying to coax (probably one of you guys) into parting with a set of real K frame Ropers for this gun?

Given the amount that you have in it I would not go halfway on the grips. Find a set that was made for it and turn the other set back to N frame.

I'm on the I-pad and can't show my Keith Brown Roper grips in exhibition English walnut. I'm mixed on original Ropers or some custom Roper grips in a nicely figured wood for that gun. Oh yea, that is one sweet gun you have. Larry

Very nice, and just luckly you caught me at a time where I had just purchased my 1st RM or it would have probably cost you a bit more before I quit bidding. It is a very nice K22-40 King conversion. I am happy for you...
Regards

Agree 100%!. My other thoughts are (based on my recollection of your prior thread) that those stocks already underwent significant "K-Frame trending" modification, and restoration to N-Frame size would be almost impossible. I think that they look great on that 22-40 and I would check and see if Keith complete the modification to K dimensions. They look right at home on that Super Target!
As a note - I thought real hard about bidding on that gun and if I did not already have a couple of 22-40's and a King Super Target K-22 Outdoorsman, we may still be going at the bidding... Even with those thoughts, I had to take that gun OFF my "watch list" to make sure that I did not bid.
BTW - There is a bunch of great 22-40 information in this older thread:
A Couple of Pre-War 22-40 Masterpieces
Glad that you got the gun. What a treasure.
Congrats,

Treasure is right, that thread made me really want to find a 22-40, and when this one came up, well, with my recent king addiction well, you know the rest.
I will say I do deeply treasure it, and it would appear that I really lucked out in terms of who else could go for it when it came up.
To be honest I was expecting to have to go higher then I did on the bidding, it's starting to make sense now as to why I didn't

What a nifty K22 you have there! I like the stocks on it. If they need adjustment and Mr. Brown will do the work, that is the course I would take. Congrats on getting that beautiful old revolver.

Congrats on a fine pick up!
I was watching that auction - along with a few others in that weeks group. You got a real gem there!
