Default Hand me down hand ejector with history

I just found this forum while looking for other information. Needless to say there is a wealth of knowledge here so I figured Id share my family heirloom. Its nothing special, not pretty by any means, and has a horrible story.

This was my great grandfathers pistol. No history is know about it other than the fact that he took his own life with it after his wife passed away. Kind of creepy? Yea, but its an inanimate object so it bothers me none. I would however like to pinpoint the approx year that it was produced. It functions just fine and have put around 25-30 rounds through it with my wife.

Enough rambling, on to the pics.

And here it is next to my latest purchase.

Welcome to the forum.
I don't have my book with me but someone will be along to give you a date.
Losing your spouse can be a devastating thing and without knowing all the particulars I would not judge your grandfather's actions. I'd just keep the gun and cherish the good memories of your grandparents.

Welcome - a couple of quick questions. The pictures are a little fuzzy. We are looking at a 38 S&W cartridge gun - right? I can't make out the serial number clearly, could you post it?

The gun is a .38 Regulation Police from -- probably -- 1917, that model's first year of production. It might have shipped as late as 1919. World War I had a hugely disruptive effect on S&W commercial production and sales.

Welcome to the Forum. Your Regulation Police and mine are only a couple of years apart as mine, per the serial number, was made circa 1917. I've attached a photo.
