Victory - Year built
Can anyone help me? I purchased a Victory model .38 special with the serial number V48433. Does anyone know the year this gun was made?

You might want to save your money. You probably won't find anything new about it. You didn't mention what markings it has. If it's ummarked, chances are its a civilian gun. There were lots of those made.

The Ordnance stamp indicates it was a military gun. Most of the Victory Models will letter to generic destinations, such as an armory or distribution hub. Occasionally a specific post/base/ship will show up, and at various times these were also shipped to defense-critical plants for security guards. If it is stamped U.S. Navy on the left top strap that would increase its value.

He already advised against it. So would I, for whatever that's worth. It will show delivery to some distribution center. But it's your $50, knock yourself out.

I am in the other court on this one. You can always add the price of the letter to the value or the price of the gun, should you decide to sell it. We generally know where the Navy & U.S. Property guns went, but I'm always curious where the unmarked guns go and their exact shipping date. I have lettered two of the "DSC" guns. One of them went to the United States Maritime Commision (Merchant Marines) and the other went to the United States Strategic Services (OSS). I have another one that is in the clean up process, but when I'm finished I'll have it lettered.
Victories are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get. . Where have I heard that before?

I agree with KEN L, FWIW. Usually the letters on DSC guns are more interesting. Also, the Army inspected many of the DSC guns and applied the Ordnance stamp.

Don't forget to post the results of the letter when you get it. Inquiring minds want to know!
