Help me identify my grandpas 22lr revolver please
Hey guys, gals
I'm new to this sight. I'm sure you get a lot of people asking for help identifing old guns. I emailed S&W about it but they wouldnt do anything without getting $50 in return! I refuse to pay that for a model number and year it was made.
I have done a little research but still can not get all the answers. MY revolver was passed down to me from my grandpa after his passing a few weeks ago, he has had this gun for a very long time, and I do not want to get rid of it I just want to know when it was made and what model it is and if someone knows the value that would be great as well.
The gun is a .22LR, from what i can find out it is a three screw frame, on the right side it has four lines of data, Smith &Wesson on left side of barrel, 22 Long Rifle CTG with a emblem on either side of it on the right side of barrel, has a 5 digit serial # first three are 160xx, and on the inside of the frame the numbers are 16527.
I know you guys like pics so I will get some up ASAP. Thank you all in advance.

I'm betting you have a K-22 Masterpeice or possibly Combat Masterpiece, is the barrel 6" or 4"?
Also, you state 3 screws, I bet the gun is a 5 screw; there will be 3 exposed screws on the sideplate PLUS one hidden under the top section of the grip panel, AND there is another screw infront of the trigger guard.

Welcome to the Forum.
With a little additional info, the members here should be able to narrow down the shipping date. S&W didn't keep track of the manufacture dats, just the date the product shipped from the factory.
There should be a "K" on the butt as well as the number 160xx. The K is also part of the serial number, even though it may be separated from the digits a bit. The 16527 number is an assembley number, used to keep the major parts together during the build.

Welcome to the forum. The presence of a K-prefix on the five digit serial number would be inconsistent with a four line address block. A K-22 revolver numbered K160xx should be a one-line gun.
I think you may have a smaller-frame .22 that dates to about 1955 called a .22/32; if the barrel is six inches, it is a .22/32 target, or pre-Model 35. If it has a shorter barrel, it would be called a .22/32 Kit Gun, or pre-Model 34. Don't worry about "pre." In 1957 and 1958 S&W completed a program of establishing numerical model numbers for all their product lines, and the "pre" designation is a shorthand way of referring to the same models produced in the few years before the catalog numbers were applied.
Pics would be a big help.

Sorry to hear of your Grandfather"s passing. Welcome, I suggest a folder with pictures of Grandad with gun, receipt, stories, or any other provenance for future generations.

Welcome to the forum.
If no K, it's a 4 screw I frame Model of 1953 22/32 Kit Gun from c.1955.
Check here for how to make a screw count: To IDENTIFY your Gun >
