Default K-22 Model 17-2 Masterpiece

I have been following this revolver on Armslist, stated it was 50 years old, 6 inch mirror polished blue with serial number
K720871 with matching blue box. I then saw it was listed on GunsAmerica for $100 more. I asked the seller if the grips were original and if there has been any repairs, modifications or finishing. I also asked if the grips were original, not sure if supposed to be diamond or not because they are not in the picture. He told me that he wasn't sure as he does this for a hobby; even though he has a FFL. I told him what to look for and how to do it. He came back and said grips match revolver and said he was only making $100 and I am too picky. I told him that for $1000 I wanted to everything about the gun & wished him goodluck. I welcome your thoughts.

Whats to think? I just looked at gunsamerica, and it looks like $1,100 will buy two of them!

Am I missing something?

As a general rule, and I am speaking from many years experience, you want to stay away from a seller who thinks you are "too picky".

I wished him well in selling, I am sure he will sell but I am also sure it won't be to me.

Yes. Walk away.
BTW K720871 is going to have a ship date around 1967. A little bit short of 50 years! One would think this should have diamond stocks, although it would have shipped near the end of that period. I have a Model 14-2 that probably shipped later that same year and it has diamond Magna stocks on it.

You were smart to pass based on the sellers attitude but more because of the muzzle wear and the fact its a late dash 2.
( I put a 4 or 5 screw above a 3 screw and diamond grip guns above non for collectability ).

IMO closer to a $550 gun than $1000 .

Dont forget the most important factor in a collectable gun is condition .

BTW I have 3 K target site late dash 2 guns with serials above K-700,000 with NON diamond Magnas but there are always exceptions to the rule with S&W.

Default diamond grips

I had a md.17-2 that I purchased from a little old lady w/out diamond grips. I think they were original to the gun. I still own a model 34 no dash with non-diamonds. I know the reference material states the change at a set year, I don't believe this to be true.
